3 Trees
Planted nearly a century ago
(Alfred) Joyce Kilmer's famous 'Trees' poem
was neat and trim...
Also, a World War One hero him.
Robert Frost rooted his 'Birches' poem
the following year.
It grew to be one of my favorites;
he was also a man of good cheer.
My little poem doesn't follow suit,
just a germinating tree-poem...
sprouting witty and cute.
From rings that have sprung many shoots,
bark to leaf I can fuse my roots
to women I want to court;
and I'm not a hero or good cheer sort.
Below you'll find my humble entree,
into this prominent poem-tree array.
Kilmer and Frost are true kingpins;
I... just a knave, with wild writing sins.
PERSON-TREE
"If her person-tree
wants my person-tree,
to 'fuse'
with her person-tree,
I 'refuse'!
My person-tree
remains my person-tree,
But... I'd be willing
to intermingle branches!"
You see... two trees 'holding hands' side by side,
is what's required for both to survive.
It's not healthy for their roots to 'collide'.
They strangle each others 'heart',
because of limited food, water and air,
hairy root-tentacles tear each person tree apart.
Root entanglements confuse...
a fight for survival ensues.
AND... that's why I bark at all of you's...
INTERMINGLE BUT... REFUSE TO FUSE!
